Jean-Michel Basquiat, a black man, was a phenomenon. He became notorious for his graffiti art under the moniker Samo in the late 1970s on the Lower East Side scene, sold his first painting to Deborah Harry for $200 and became best friends with Andy Warhol.He became the most popular and influential artist of his time, from 1976 to 1986.

If you haven't seen this incredible documentary on Jean Michel Basquiat. You've got to watch it. It's worth every minute. Pure genius...
